Pathways
The project “Pathways” by the artists’ group ArtUnitas centres on works that examine the idea of the pathway, and on the building of passages for communication. The composition is made of paper “corridors” on which the works are set.
The works reflect the artists’ own journeys and their inward searching through space and time. Ideas kindred to the pathway — transition, crossing, passage — meet, intersect and complete one another.
Questions surface at the same time and become part of the group’s conversation: can we get out of the course our own life has taken? Can art become an instrument for influencing that course and setting another direction?
As a frame of reference for this conversation we use Wisława Szymborska’s poem “The Three Oddest Words”. The lines work as a kind of external prompt, enriching our pathway with the sounds that accompany us and the images that are lost as we move through time.
When I pronounce the word Future, the first syllable already belongs to the past. When I pronounce the word Silence,I destroy it.When I pronounce the word Nothing,I make something no non-being can hold. Wisława Szymborska, “The Three Oddest Words”
