Proposal

Visualisation of the installation: a dark slate slab incised with thin metal lines like pitch markings, eight spheres in different materials set in its unequal compartments, in a hall with concrete walls.
Each artist sets down one sphere. Eight offerings on a marked ground.

Football “pitches” on waste ground between demolished buildings, among workers’ apartment blocks and small villages, with stones, sticks or bags set down to mark the goalposts. The balls are either made out of whatever everyday material comes to hand or are old ones, worn out and still in service.

Children of every age kick a round object about, indifferent to reality for a while. The force of football as a game, and the children’s imagining themselves into famous players, produce an environment from which adults are absent: a temporary refuge.

ArtUnitas “build” the symbolic miniature of such a pitch — an altar, where each artist in the group sets down their work as an offering to a game that, for children, works as a place needing neither a white flag nor any agreement.

What they present is a single collective work about the redemptive action of play and the worth of children’s inventiveness.
