Timeless Grid
The art collective ART UNITAS is working on a collaborative art project that unfolds in time; a project that reflects the trace of the present moment and becomes a testament of the continuous necessity for exploration. An exploration that coexists with the vital need that motivates visual artists to pass on the materialization of their concepts to future generations.
ART UNITAS, as one person who employs ten different viewpoints, is working on the work “timeless grid”, creating a trace out of time, a stamp left to be discovered by the future archaeological spade; the group draws on a map ten similar questions: what do I leave for a person in the future? What do I want you to know about me? What do I want you to discover about me?
Finally, hasn’t that always been the crucial question and the very beginning of artistic creation?

An excavation, whether accidental or planned, exists to rescue. Within the terms of bioethics it is understood as our duty to save whatever is threatened with disappearance. The method and working tool is the survey grid — the handmade device that operates as a mechanism for exploring in depth. A mesh of horizontal and vertical lines set at equal distances. It is made of small cavities, loculus in Latin, meaning small place. It joins the works of the group: of those who share a house, who resemble one another, who stand next to one another — of ArtUnitas.
Squares = points = symbols = messages
The works of ArtUnitas are presented as finds in a common site of discovery, chosen deliberately. Their common denominator is the time of their being found together.
One embroidery made of small pieces. They are creations, they are messages, they are finds, they are an imprint, they are an instruction. They behave as living organisms, determined by the time and the place in which they stand. The form of their dimensions and materials takes on being and earns value. As mirrors of society they reflect collectivity, solidarity, respect, demarcation, acceptance and cooperation.
Our grid contains within it the idea of use and usefulness. The results of the research are an instrument for living. Finds set down in front of us, for which we need dig not into soil but into ourselves, as an inward excavation. Marks and images — and the question of where the documentation comes from.
A bequest. I learn the past, I understand the present, I foresee the future.
